Legion Cottages
In the summer of 2018 Homes for Good was approached by the City of Cottage Grove and Post 32 of the American Legion about providing more affordable housing for veterans in Cottage Grove. The American Legion owns a vacant 0.16 acre parcel right next to its building which it wants to use for this purpose. Homes for Good staff approached the University of Oregon OregonBILDS program. This program led by Professor Rob Thallon has partnered with Homes for Good to build single family homes that are then sold as affordable housing. In this case, the partnership would include the students designing four cottages or tiny homes in one school term and then under direction of a contractor, constructing the homes in two terms.
Legion Cottages consists of 4 separate studio tiny houses located in Cottage Grove, Oregon. Residents pay only electric. Units include new appliances, storage loft, skylights, large windows, ceiling fans, outdoor porches, outdoor storage area and shared community space. This quiet smoke-free community is located just across the street from Riverview Terrace, which is a large public housing affordable community managed by Homes for Good. The on-site manager and maintenance team from Riverview Terrace will manage the new homes and help provide a supportive community for the residence of the new homes. Laundry facilities, resident services, and a community room is available at Riverview Terrace. A small dog or cat is welcome with an approved pet application and deposit.
